Hollyfort Village

Hollyfort (Irish: Ráth an Chuilinn, meaning "ringfort of the holly") is a village in north County Wexford, Ireland. It lies within the townland of Mangan (Irish: an Mongán, meaning "the little swamp") in the valley of the River Bann, 5 km northwest of Gorey.

Historically it was called Rahincullin, which is an anglicisation of its Irish name.

Tip of the Month: First Reduce

Green Eco Tips for Sustainable Living

First: Reduce

The critical first step of waste prevention has been overshadowed by a focus on recycling. Please help to promote a greater awareness of the importance of the "Reduce" part of the Reduce-Reuse-Recycle mantra. For a great overview of how raw materials and products move around the world, see the video The Story of Stuff.
Go Zero Waste: The ultimate goal - learn how at Zero Waste Home.
Simplify: Simplify your life as much as possible. Only keep belongings that you use/enjoy on a regular basis. By making the effort to reduce what you own, you will naturally purchase less/create less waste in the future.

Tip of the Month : Plant a Tree for National Tree Week

National Tree Week - Planting for our Planet - runs from 31/3/19 to 7/4/19.
Tidy Towns will be planting several trees around the Hollyfort area during that week and everyone is welcome to join in.
Or, if you would rather plant a tree in your garden, please send us a selfie!

Hollyfort's Sensory Garden

We are delighted to pass on the good news about the enhancement of a plot of land in Hollyfort village. A derelict site, currently used as a dumping ground, behind the row of village houses, will be made into a sensory garden.

A plan of the proposed sensory garden is currently been drawn up, with the help of a local horticulturist and a derelict site grant.

We have started by cleaning up the debris and rubbish on the site, and are making it ready for a local landscaper.

Plants will include those that engage one’s senses of sight, smell, touch, taste and sound. The space will also be bee and butterfly friendly.

We look forward to working with this imaginative project which will enhance Hollyfort village for everyone.
