Hollyfort Village

Hollyfort (Irish: Ráth an Chuilinn, meaning "ringfort of the holly") is a village in north County Wexford, Ireland. It lies within the townland of Mangan (Irish: an Mongán, meaning "the little swamp") in the valley of the River Bann, 5 km northwest of Gorey.

Historically it was called Rahincullin, which is an anglicisation of its Irish name.

Mt Nebo Trail

View (pic 1)
Mount Nebo Trail starts at Hollyfort car park on the Monaseed Road, beside the Old School House where there is ample parking space.

This is a 5.6 km looped trail, rising to 257 meters. The trail provides scenic views across the surrounding countryside, particularly on the descent back to Hollyfort. (pic 1). The woodland trail winds uphill to a Fairy Wood (pic 2) at the top, which then leads onto an open looped Coillte forestry road, which runs around the slopes of Mt Nebo and Slievebaun.

It takes approximately 1 hour to walk the trail, which is a moderate grade. Way-markers point the way, and four benches are situated along the Coillte trail.

Mt Nebo has historical links to Irish republican women's paramilitary organisation, Cumann na mban, through two of their members, Maire Comerford and Aileen Keogh. Hollyfort's 1916 Garden at the Bann River Walk, commemorates the women.
