Hollyfort Village

Hollyfort (Irish: Ráth an Chuilinn, meaning "ringfort of the holly") is a village in north County Wexford, Ireland. It lies within the townland of Mangan (Irish: an Mongán, meaning "the little swamp") in the valley of the River Bann, 5 km northwest of Gorey.

Historically it was called Rahincullin, which is an anglicisation of its Irish name.

Another Strong Result For TTs

It's another strong year for Hollyfort Village in the Supervalu Tidy Towns Competition as we were awarded 321 points, up from 310 last year.

The adjudicator's report was uplifting with comments like . . .

What a great idea to do a series on on Hollyfort's heritage buildings

Cooney's facade with the tiled or faience maolica front is lovely to see retained

The project to ensure easy access to the Honey Orchard was quite the undertaking, however the results     are impressive

There are some lovely planting schemes throughout, with colour, textures & depth

The inclusion of the Mt Nebo trail in the National Trails Ireland 2024 is quite the accolade, especially as it was one of  only five added.

Thank you to everyone for their help and support!

They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But it can also be a stressful part of the morning routine which can lead to food waste.

National Spring Clean Day - Saturday 27/4/24

An Taisce's National Spring Clean project is Ireland's nationwide anti-litter campaign which takes place during the whole month of April in towns and villages. The Hollyfort Tidy Towns regularly litter-pick during the year and now you have an opportunity to join them on Saturday 27th April '24.
Meet at the crossroads at 11 am or, if you would rather, pledge on our Facebook to clean up the road outside your property. Bags and gloves will be provided - Just ask in Cooney's

Tip of the Month

Recycled containers (such as yogurt cups, egg cartons, and toilet paper rolls) are great for starting your seeds indoors. Simply use a nail to poke drainage holes in the bottom, and ensure the containers are thoroughly cleaned before planting.

Your Carbon Footprint

 What is a Carbon Calculator?

A Carbon Calculator is a computer programme that calculates your Carbon Footprint.  This is the approximate amount of carbon dioxide produced by the activities of business, individuals and families.

Have a look at Carbon Footprint or the World Wildlife Fund to calculate your footprint.  There is loads of use advice and guidance on how to reduce your carbon footprint through household energy use reductions and waste managment, and a particularly useful site in that regard is the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI)

Hollyfort's Heritage - Old Forge

 Remembering Hollyfort's Heritage

Over the next few months we are running a series on Hollyfort's heritage buildings and are looking for old photos, information and memories of the buildings.

Please email us at hollyfortvillage@gmail.com with any information you have to offer.

Once we have gathered all the details, an event will be held to share the information and to celebrate Hollyfort's heritage buildings.

This month we begin with Hollyfort's Forge.
