A 1916 Commemorative Garden has been built by the Bann River in Hollyfort to remember the two Hollyfort women involved in the 1916 Easter Rising. The names of Maire Commerford and Aileen Keogh will each be etched into individual stones, with a third stone etched with the Proclamation.
A flag pole has been erected, and the fenced garden overlooking the river will be planted with flowers and shrubs.
A ceremony will be held on Sunday 10th April at 4pm when Fionntán O Suilleabhain will pay tribute to these brave woman. The event will include a reading of Hollyfort poems by local poet, Carol Boland, and a raising of the flag.
All are invited to attend the event and afterwards to gather in Cooney's pub in the village.
