Hollyfort Village

Hollyfort (Irish: Ráth an Chuilinn, meaning "ringfort of the holly") is a village in north County Wexford, Ireland. It lies within the townland of Mangan (Irish: an Mongán, meaning "the little swamp") in the valley of the River Bann, 7 km northwest of Gorey.

Historically it was called Rahincullin, which is an anglicisation of its Irish name.

Tip of the Month - Plant bidens for the Bumblebees

Bumblebees are dying of hunger and in grave danger of disappearing from Ireland's countryside and gardens.

The population of the most common bumblebees has plummeted by 14 pc in just seven years and a third of our 21 species are critically endangered.
We keep tidying up nature so we have lots of grassland and parkland with no dandelions or clover or other wildflowers and the bumblebees die of hunger.

'Petunias, begonias, primulas and most of the bedding plants we like so much are useless as sources of nectar . . If we could get people to plant bidens and bacopas, it would really help,' says Dr Una Fitzpatrick, who runs the bumblebee monitoring scheme for the National Biodiversity Data Centre.

Tip of the Month - Water Refill Stations

There are now new FREE water refill stations in Gorey.

Drinking water will now be available free of charge at various hydration stations across Gorey town as installation works are now complete on the first fountain located at Gorey Civic Square. This is to encourage people to top up refillable bottles rather than buying single use bottles of water.

Two other refill stations are planned for Main Street at the Ulster Bank, and on the Paul Funge Boulevard near the bus stop. The initiative is a collaboration of Wexford County Council and Gorey Tidy Towns,

Tip of the Month

Bottled water is inefficient, expensive, and produces large amounts of plastic waste. Instead, use a refillable water bottle and tap water; if you like you could use a water filter to cleanse the tap water and chill the water in the fridge. As the Mother Nature Network point out, the very concept of bottled water is failed due to our our ready access to perfectly healthy tap water.
