Hollyfort Village

Hollyfort (Irish: Ráth an Chuilinn, meaning "ringfort of the holly") is a village in north County Wexford, Ireland. It lies within the townland of Mangan (Irish: an Mongán, meaning "the little swamp") in the valley of the River Bann, 7 km northwest of Gorey.

Historically it was called Rahincullin, which is an anglicisation of its Irish name.

Facelift for Old School

In preparation for the 200 year anniversary of Hollyfort's Old School, the Tidy Towns have power-washed the stone building.

What a difference that has made!

We have also planted three large trees in the grounds to replace those which had to be cut down a few years ago.

Work continues on Mt Nebo Trail

Work continues on our accredited Mt Nebo Trail with the insertion of a large, possibly granite, boulder at the second entrance to Mt Nebo Trail.

This is to protect the walk from Quads and dumping of household waste and litter yet allows walkers ease of access to join the main trail.

National Tree Week 21 - 27 March '21

This year Hollyfort Tidy Towns are actively involved in National Tree Week. One of our Sustainable Development Goals is to plant more trees around the village and this year we have outdone ourselves. During Tree Week we are planting 20 trees and aim to plant another 10 during the year. We are grateful to a Pobal grant which enables us to complete this project.

National Spring Clean Sat 6th March 2021

Hollyfort's National Spring Clean Day is Saturday 6th March 2021.

Due to level 5 restrictions being extended, individual or household bubble clean-ups will only be carried out.

Refuse bags and  limited number of gloves available from Cooney's Shop nearer the time.

Your contribution during the National Spring Clean, however big or small, will have real and measurable benefits for our environment. For example:

For every aluminium can collected and recycled enough energy is saved to run your television for three hours!

For 1kg of recycled plastics collected, 1.5kg of carbon dioxide is prevented from being released to the atmosphere (the same amount of carbon dioxide released by toasting 30 slices of bread!

By recycling 1kg of paper instead of landfilling, enough energy is saved to run an energy-saving bulb non-stop for two days! For 1kg of recycled glass, the saving is 300g of carbon dioxide

Please help us to keep Hollyfort litter-free and take a photo for our Facebook page.
