Hollyfort Village

Hollyfort (Irish: Ráth an Chuilinn, meaning "ringfort of the holly") is a village in north County Wexford, Ireland. It lies within the townland of Mangan (Irish: an Mongán, meaning "the little swamp") in the valley of the River Bann, 5 km northwest of Gorey.

Historically it was called Rahincullin, which is an anglicisation of its Irish name.

Tip of the Month - Go Electric

Switch to electric tools for a quieter, cleaner garden

Petrol-powered mowers and garden tools might be powerful, but they’re noisy and polluting. To reduce your carbon footprint and enjoy a quieter garden, try this

  • Mow less often or leave a patch wild to support pollinators.
  • Choose corded or battery-powered electric tools for mowing, trimming and strimming.
  • Consider installing rooftop solar panels to enjoy lower cost, more eco-friendly gardening and living.

All-Ireland Pollinator Plan

The All-Ireland Pollinator Plan is a framework bringing together different sectors across the island of Ireland to create a landscape where pollinators can survive and thrive. Implementation is coordinated by the National Biodiversity Data Centre.

One third of our wild bee species is threatened with extinction. This is mainly because we have drastically reduced the amount of food and safe nesting sites that support them. The All-Ireland Pollinator Plan is a shared plan of action: together, we can take steps to restore pollinator populations to healthy levels. There are simple ways everyone can help, whether you have a business, a farm, a community group, a garden, or a window box.

Check out their  website https://pollinators.ie where you will find information and free resources to help you learn more about our different pollinators and what you can do to help them.

Your Carbon Footprint

 What is a Carbon Calculator?

A Carbon Calculator is a computer programme that calculates your Carbon Footprint.  This is the approximate amount of carbon dioxide produced by the activities of business, individuals and families.

Have a look at Carbon Footprint or the World Wildlife Fund to calculate your footprint.  There is loads of use advice and guidance on how to reduce your carbon footprint through household energy use reductions and waste managment, and a particularly useful site in that regard is the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI)
