Self-Discovery thro Poetry - Let The River Flow

 

As part of IPTN's Poetry Through the Seasons, Carol Boland PTP will be presenting  a workshop on Saturday 13th June from 2pm - 4pm in Hollyfort Old School, Hollyfort, Gorey, Co. Wexford.   

Let the River Flow is a 2-hour exploration of the benefits of collaboration and synergy in the group-writing experience.

The workshop is €20 for IPTN members and €30 for others (including refreshments). Please note places are limited.

Tip of the Month - No Mow in May

No Mow May' is all about putting the lawn mower away and leaving the grass to grow, and in amongst the grass, those plants that are native wildflowers can actually bloom and this can provide food resource for bees and other pollinating insects. So the idea is to to just let that native plant diversity that's already there flower and support the native wildlife," explains Prof Jane Stout. "You can you can become a conservation hero by doing absolutely nothing."

If you're worried about what your neighbours might think when they see your "scraggly" lawn, one thing you can do is still mow around the edges so that it's clear your lawn is still being looked after, says Stout. The other thing you can do is put up a sign to explain to people what you're doing.

 Upgrade of Hollyfort Community Centre continues at a pace, thanks to funds raised by the community.  Open fire has been replaced by a state of the art stove and refurbishment of the Ladies toilets is almost complete. Don't worry Gents, your turn will come next month!

Essential Work on Mt Nebo Trail - January '26

A survey of the Mt Nebo woods has resulted in several trees which need to be felled to make the trail safe for walkers. A notice will be displayed at the entrance to the woods if the tree surgeons advise that the trail needs to be closed as they carry out the work.

Good News - Trees on Land has offered us 30 native trees to be planted in February, so we can continue to ensure biodiversity and a healthy woodland.

The Hollyfort Writers Group starts back fortnightly from Wednesday 10th September '25 at 7 pm and all budding writers are welcome to join in the fun. 

The Hollyfort Singing Circle starts back fortnightly from Wednesday 17th September '25 at 7 pm. This group is for anyone who loves to sing and doesn't care who hears them!

The Hollyfort book club meet on 2nd Monday of the month to share their thoughts on a wide range of books. The autumn sessions begin on 6th October at 7.30 pm.

Do you like playing cards? A 45 Card Game is held on the last Sunday in the month, beginning at 7 pm. You may win something!

Each of the above evenings ends with refreshments and a chat.

National Heritage Week - Old School Digital Project

 

Hollyfort is taking part in Heritage Week '25 with a digital book project. 

This booklet is an account of the successes and trials of Hollyfort Old School from 1821 to the present day. It is told through photographs, historical documents and first-hand accounts by past pupils. The booklet is also available in hard-copy from Cooney's shop, Hollyfort.
