Tip of the Month

Bottled water is inefficient, expensive, and produces large amounts of plastic waste. Instead, use a refillable water bottle and tap water; if you like you could use a water filter to cleanse the tap water and chill the water in the fridge. As the Mother Nature Network point out, the very concept of bottled water is failed due to our our ready access to perfectly healthy tap water.

Tip of the Month - A cleaner way to clean

A cleaner way to clean

Did you know?
80% of dry cleaners in the U.S. use perchloroethylene, a solvent that has been linked to cancer, nervous system damage and hormonal disruption. Seek out a non-toxic professional dry cleaning alternative or "green cleaner" in your area.

If your washing machine has a setting for the amount of clothing you're washing, choose a low setting—you'll use less water and your clothes will get just as clean. Using cold water can save up to 80% of the energy required to wash clothes.

Use less hot water. Washing your clothes in cold or warm instead of hot water can save as much as 500 pounds of carbon dioxide per year.

The average washing machine uses about 41 gallons of water per load, whereas newer, high-efficiency models use less than 28 gallons of water per load.

Tidy Towns Results 2019

Another good year for Hollyfort  with a further 8 points awarded by the Tidy Towns adjudicators who said:

'The number of different events that the Tidy Towns Group has been involved in over the past year under this category is quite amazing. These events are too numerous to mention but it must be said that the efforts made and work put into the Philip Casey Memorial Service was particularly commendable. It is heartening to learn that your involvement with the Tidy Towns Competition over the last number of years has been very beneficial for Hollyfort and is providing a renewed sense of belonging and unity amongst the local community, both within the village and in surrounding areas and people are now proud to say they live in Hollyfort.'

A big thank-you to all those who supported the local Tidy Towns committee - we could not have done it without you!
